As of September 1, 2020, there were over 5,000 families at risk of losing current housing in Franklin County. This moratorium will help to prevent an overwhelming number of families from being evicted and forced into our already overrun emergency shelter system. This would not only put families at risk of homelessness, it could also expose thousands of Franklin County Residents to COVID-19.

While this moratorium will place a temporary hold on eviction filings through December 31, 2020, the following activity will still be deemed as evictable offenses:

  • Conducting criminal activity on the property;
  • Threatening the health or safety of other residents;
  • Damaging or posing an immediate and significant risk of damage to the property;
  • Violating applicable building codes, health ordinances, or other regulations related to health and safety; and
  • Violating any contractual obligation other than the timely payment of rent, late fees, penalties

Please note, once this moratorium expires on December 31, 2020, tenants will again be at risk for eviction if they remain behind on rent, or have not established a payment plan with their landlord.

Tenants are encouraged to complete the declaration provided by the CDC and turn in a copy to their landlord. They should also keep a signed copy for their records and consider turning in a copy of this declaration to the clerk of courts as soon as possible.
